Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a ransom is paid. WannaCry has already attacked 200,000 computers in over 150 countries.
The global ransomware attack has struck a large number of companies globally seizing control of affected computers until the victims pay a ransom. This attack targeted Russia, Ukraine and Taiwan badly.
Europol said that the ransomware attack requires international investigation. Spanish telecom company Telefónica (TEF) was also hit with the ransomware i.e. WannaCry. This attack is going to spread wide within the internal systems of organizations. We must say that this cyberattack is turning into the biggest cybersecurity incident ever seen.
Jason Tanz, the site director at Wired said that if you’re the victim of a ransomware attack you’ll open your computer and instead of your normal files you’ll see a pop-up appear that says Surprise, we’ve taken control of your computer and if you want access to your files you need to pay us. In order to protect yourself against ransomware attack, you need to back up your files remotely.
